Who we are

At Roche, about 80,000 people across 150 countries are pushing back the frontiers of healthcare. Working together, we’ve become one of the world’s leading research-focused healthcare groups. Our success is built on innovation, curiosity and diversity, and on seeing each other’s differences as an advantage. To innovate healthcare, Roche has ambitious plans to keep learning and growing – and is seeking people who have the same goals for themselves.

The Position

Focus of the project will be the establishment and validation of in vitro and in vivo assays measuring the penetration of biologics drug candidates through the blood-brain barrier. This implies preparation and cultivation of primary brain endothelial cells or cell lines, establishment of filter-based assay systems with astrocyte co-culture and their characterization by TEER, immunofluorescence, FACS and ELISA. Furthermore the project will envolve cloning and expression of fusion proteins in mammalian systems and their characterization by cellular assays and ELISA as well as planning and evaluation of animal experiments to measure blood-brain penetration.

This position is temporary and limited to three years.

Who you are

You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies, and where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

The successful candidate has a strong background in biology, biochemistry or pharmacy (MSc, BSc) and a PhD. He or she has at least three years of research experience working with brain endothelial cell models as well as the characterization of theses models by determination of permability coefficients, expression of marker proteins and TEER measurements. Practical experience with animal models of blood-brain barrier penetration and immunological methods like ELISA and FACS would be a plus. The candiadte is a highly motivated team player and has a very good command of written and spoken English.
